‘The Force Awakens’ Trailer Gives Us Goosebumps

The new trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens made its debut last night on Monday Night Football, and the world has lost its collective mind. Already, the trailer has been viewed over 13 million times on YouTube, making it one of the most watched and most celebrated movie trailers of all time.

With good reason. The trailer confirms what many of long expected—and hoped—from the new trilogy: A stunning return to form after the lackluster and disappointing prequel trilogy last decade. Details on the film’s plot are still being kept firmly under wraps, but holy god, it looks phenomenal.

While no one would blame you for being a bit wary of new Star Wars after being so let down by the prequels, Disney, who acquired LucasFilm a few years back, seems to have a keen understanding of both what fans are expecting and what makes Star Wars one of the most love franchises of all time. They’ve got a lot riding on a new series, and they know that even the slightest disappointment might derail their longterm plans before they even get off the ground. To that end, the latest trailer seems to put an end to speculation regarding the film’s quality.

The trailer features plenty of what makes Star Wars a lasting treasure among geeks and movie fans the world over: dog fights, light sabers, tyrannical overlords, good guys, and, of course, Han Solo. Noticeably missing from the preview is any sort of real look at Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, whose been mostly absent from all marketing from the new movie. This has caused many to wonder what, exactly, his role in the new series is going to be and many are speculating that everyone’s favorite moisture farmer has turned to the Dark Side.

Whatever the answer is, we’ll no doubt get it when The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18. Tickets are already on sale, so check with your local theater to secure your spot on opening night and, in the meantime, go ahead and check out this trailer a few hundred more times between now and then.
