5 Acts Not To Be Missed At The Inaugural Vertex Music Festival

The inaugural Vertex Music Festival is about to go down in Buena Vista, Colorado this weekend! With an eclectic lineup ranging from hip-hop, dance music and funk bands to rock and roll and bluegrass, there is something for everyone. To get you stoked for Vertex, here are 5 noteworthy acts you need to catch…

1) Trey Anastasio Band

Coming off of Phish summer tour two weeks ago with lots of new debuts and magical moments, Trey Anastasio and his band will be performing two sets Sunday evening to close out the festival. It will be interesting to see TAB perform outdoors in Colorado for the first time since Red Rocks in 2006! Expect new material and high-energy Trey to help close out your weekend with eternal joy and neverending splendor. For those that haven’t seen TAB, the mix of horns and powerful vocals with Trey’s ripping guitar is the perfect mix for all music fans!

2) Fruition

After a busy summer, Portland, Oregon-based quintet Fruition will surely bring the heat all weekend. The string-driven yet amplified rock and blues band is playing four different sets, one with Allie Kral of Yonder Mountain String Band, and another “Fruition and Friends”, which is sure to bring out some interesting guests. Their non-stop energy is contagious, and it’s clear why the band has more sets throughout the festival than any other band!

3) The Claypool Lennon Delirium

Les Claypool of Primus set out with a new side project this year, accompanied by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s son, Sean. Sean had opened for Primus last summer, and the two have been touring the country this summer, with great reviews coming from fans of both musicians nationwide. The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s set falls Sunday evening, right before Trey, and as a music fan it is hard to ignore the possibility of Trey sitting in with Les, or Les sitting in with Trey. The two toured in the 2000’s under the name Oysterhead, alongside The Police drummer Stewart Copeland, and fans of both Les and Trey have been begging for a reunion of some sorts. This may be the weekend for that!

4) The Alabama Shakes

Performing the headlining slot on Friday night, Grammy-winning wizards The Alabama Shakes will grace Buena Vista, Colorado with their soulful vocals and shredding guitar solos. Led by vocalist and guitarist Brittany Howard’s extreme tenacity and emotion, we should expect to hear lots of new material off of the band’s latest album Sound and Color. The band has sold-out small theaters to large outdoor venues over the past few years, and should not be missed this upcoming weekend beside the beautiful mountains and lake in Southern Colorado.

5) Odesza

The LA-based electronic duo, who sold-out Red Rocks within minutes this summer, will be performing a set not to be missed on Saturday night. Vertex is offering a wide range of music, from soul, blues, jam, to electronic, and Odesza was the perfect electronic headliner to choose for this magical weekend ahead of us. Blending various pop and classic vocal loops with hard hitting beats illustrates Odesza’s strong and quick trip to the top of the EDM scene. Their blend of different genres of music is the perfect mixture, to provide a dance party for the ages without the obnoxious bass-in-your-face that we hear from so many electronic artists these days. Even for someone that would never normally considering seeing DJ’s, please do not miss out on Odesza!
