Apple is reportedly in talks with the major labels to introduce a subscription-based music service that will allow users to have unlimited streaming access to the iTunes library for a monthly fee. New York Post reports that iTunes chief Eddy Cue had meetings with the major labels in recent weeks to discuss how Apple could proceed with the service, which would be similar to the popular European streaming site Spotify. The major labels have kept that ad-supported service out of the U.S. because they insist on a subscription-based model. (Spotify will be included on Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 7, though.)
