Film Bits: Watch the New ‘Wonder Woman’ Trailer; ‘T2: Trainspotting’ Releases Full Trailer

Watch the Jaw Dropping Trailer for ‘Wonder Woman’

After the critical maligning of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, there’s a lot riding on the upcoming Wonder Woman. The Gal Gadot vehicle has the potential to either legitimize the world building franchise or send it crashing to the ground. Buzz surrounding the film has been positive so far, with a well-received trailer last summer at Comicon. Now, we’ve gotten to see a bit more with the release of the first official trailer to the next chapter in the DCEU cinematic universe. It’s hard to deny that the film looks pretty spectacular, and it’s not difficult to think that our hopes aren’t unwarranted. Still, it’s only fair to point out that the first trailers for Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were also pretty amazing. Time will tell if the excitement was worthwhile. For now, I’m going to just watch this on repeat until the film drops on June 2, 2017.

First Full Trailer for ‘T2: Trainspotting’ Showcases More of the Same

The first full trailer for T2: Trainspotting shows us a bit more from the upcoming sequel to Danny Boyle’s 1996 breakout. Featuring a modern update of the classic “choose life” monologue, we see the whole gang back in action for, well, more of the same. Honestly, it all kind of seems painfully reminiscent of the original film, the only difference being everyone is 20 years older.  Still, it is nice to see the gang back together for what looks like more drug fueled mischief and mayhem. The film is set to open January 27 in Britain, though Americans will have to wait a few weeks longer until February 10.

‘Don’t Breathe’ Director Eyes for ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel

The success of last summer’s Don’t Breathe was no big shock to fans of Fede Alvarez. As director of Evil Dead, he’d long established his eye for horror and pacing, knowing exactly how to pull audiences in and then deliver the goods. But the success of that movie has studios knocking on his door to offer him more work. Word is, Sony is currently in talks with Alvarez to direct The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the planned sequel to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The film is based on the latest novel in the Lisbeth Salander series, which was written by David Lagercrantz following the death of series creator Steig Larsson. Alvarez would certainly bring something new to the table for the series, though I wonder if this is the best use of his talents. It might be better to wait and see what he might have planned for himself before committing as a hired gun, though it would certainly be a huge career move. The deal has yet to be finalized.

‘The Dark Tower’ Delayed, But for the Right Reasons

By now, fans of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower are used to hearing the words “has been delayed.” The story of getting the novel series from the page to the screen is almost as epic as King’s eight volume series itself. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear it one last time. The film, originally slated for release this February, has been pushed back. Though principle photography has already been completed, director Nikolaj Arcel has asked for additional time to get the effects up to snuff before the film is released. As disappointing as this might be, it’s good news for fans. It’ll be nice to see a movie whose look matches King’s epic vision, and that the film is now being planned for a summer 2017 release suggests the studio is feeling more confident regarding its prospects. While they’ve yet to settle on a weekend, any summer weekend is better than February, which is a notorious “dump” season, where studios just release whatever crap movie they’ve got that won’t sell. It’s a solid indication of the level of quality they’re going for with this release, and speaks well to what can be expected.
