‘Labyrinth’ Sequel Finds Writer

After making his name on the remake of Evil Dead and last year’s Don’t Breathe, director Fede Alvarez has landed a massive new project. The director has been named to write the currently-in-planning sequel to the classic Jim Henson film, Labyrinth. Alvarez will be co-writing the script along with Jay Basu, who’s currently also working with Alvarez on The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the sequel to David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Sources say that the Labyrinth movie is set to be more of a spinoff than a sequel, telling a new story set within the same fairy tale world originally created by Henson prior to his death in 1990. This also helps them get around the loss of David Bowie, who portrayed the Goblin King in the original film.
