Five years after the release of the self-titled debut on Dualtone Records, Portland, OR-based Fort Atlantic – the moniker of singer/songwriter Jon Black – returns with sophomore album Shadow Shaker Vol 1. “There were a lot of hurdles and creative battles I had to fight with myself to get this record finished, “says Black.
Shadow Shaker Vol 1 will be released throughout 2017, one song at a time, alongside video landscapes and art, culminating in a full-length physical album release in early 2018. The first song “I Will Never Give Up On You” was released in January and now Glide is premiering the second single “Sleeping Giant” (below). The song encapsulates exquisite atmospherics reminiscent of Elbow and Sigur Rós, while retaining its own signature crescendo. The compositional matter here ambitiously tells its own story, showing Fort Atlantic as gallanted voice as a songwriter and artist who continues to rouse with each new song.
“This was written about the experience of feeling like things weren’t moving, and then a huge wave crashed and woke my career up and everything changed. This is one of the most explosive and aggressive songs I’ve ever written and recorded,” remarks Black.
