Mimi Page: Love Will Tear Us Apart EP

[rating=4.00]

The Love Will Tear Us Apart EP is the second EP Page has delivered so far in 2011, and like her first, A Lullaby for the Lonely, this stunning disc is loaded with down-tempo electronic rhythms and haunting vocals that will mesmerize and enchant you.

Page’s piano playing features prominently in each of the songs, and it adds a stunning layer to each of the tracks. Her slightly sped up cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” has a hypnotic feel to it as Page’s breathy vocals glide through the lyrics while the ethereal soundtrack surrounds her. The title track features Page singing lightly but confidently with the somber, piano-led trip-hop sounds as she talks about the devastating potential of love.  And “My Vanilla Sky” employs a somewhat droney background with sparse keys, otherworldly atmospherics and orchestral flourishes as Page’s unbelievable vocals guide you through what feels like the most languid dream you’ve ever had.

Fans of down-tempo piano electronica, trip-hop and dream pop will dig this, and if you want to get hip to an unsigned artist who is about to blow up on the dance scene, then you owe it to yourself to check out Mimi Page’s work.
