The Project/Object fall tour will once again bring The Music of Frank Zappa to the Northeast, kicking off October 13th in Harrisburg, PA. The band will be joined by Zappa band mates Ike Willis and Ray White, who together and separately toured and recorded with Zappa from 1976-1988. Project/Object’s collaboration with Willis & White is a testament to the bands desire to present Zappa classics as they recorded them, while also creatively featuring these vocalists on a variety of earlier material.
Ike Willis is the legendary Zappa vocalist and guitarist whose career with Frank began in the role of “Joe” on the quintessential Zappa album Joe’s Garage, and continued for over a decade. He began with Zappa’s band in 1978 and appeared on almost every Zappa tour and album until Frank’s untimely death. In 1988 Ike played an integral role in Zappa’s final tour , considered by many to be Zappa’s most historic and a tour that he richly represented in several live recordings.
Ray White is a soul vocalist and blues/rock guitarist, best known as a member of Zappa’s touring ensembles. Ray joined Zappa’s band in the fall of 1976, featured on rhythm guitar and vocals. He formed a memorable vocal harmony partnership with Ike Willis on later tours in 1980 and 1984. He participated on the albums Zappa in New York, Tinsel Town Rebellion, You Are What You Is, and several others with Ike Willis, cementing the classic sound of Zappa’s 80s releases.
