VIDEO PREMIERE: The Stanleys’ “Amy” Equals Sublime Pop Hooks and Noisy Melody

Unabashedly joyful and joyfully unapologetic, on their self-titled debut album, The Stanleys deliver a concentrated dose of Australian Power Pop delight. With the help of guest performers / producers Ken Stringfellow (REM, Big Star) and Michael Carpenter (king of Aussie Power Pop), Perth pop proponents  Mark Di Renzo and Jamie Horsburgh, together with Oslo’s Tomas Dahl (Turbonegro, the Yum Yums), have created a debut LP crammed with catchy melodies, lush harmonies and crunching guitars that is as undeniable as it is arresting.

The Stanleys started crafting their melodic sunshine when Horsburgh quit Gigantic, the band centred around Di Renzo’s creative capabilities, for a girl. His timing impeccable, Horsburgh left just as Gigantic was beginning to have international success. Signing to San Francisco’s Zip Records, the band toured the U.S. three times, playing SXSW, CMJ, and a myriad club dates, and building up a substantial fan base touring Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Then, in 2010, Horsburgh divorced and decided it was time to hit the road again. The Stanleys were born.  Since making their live debut in Los Angeles in July 2011, they have notched up hundreds of gigs around the globe, preaches to the Power Pop faithful in the USA, Canada, Spain, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Japan, China and Australia.  They’ve played international festivals such as Summerfest, CMJ, International Pop Overthrow (USA), NXNE (Canada), Positivus and Summer Sound Festivals (Latvia), crazy college frat parties, Chinese Hutongs and plenty of sweaty clubs around the world.

Written in Perth and recorded with Stringfellow in Paris, The Stanleys charges headfirst into grappling with the timeless themes of its iconic genre: cars and girls. While each track on the album stands strong on its own, Di Renzo is willing to admit that “perhaps there is a bit of a recurrent motif; chasing what you want in life, whatever that may be.  Go for it, have no regrets! Life is an exciting journey to be had, and there’s always a reward waiting for the taking!”

A joyride of power pop goodness from start to finish, The Stanleys is an Aussie-flavored Hilux full of non-stop upbeat melody, shout-along harmonies, crunchy guitars and bouncy beats. Outback sunshine captured on 2” tape, The Stanleys is guaranteed to supercharge your spirits.

Glide is proud to premiere the video for the revved up pop rocker “Amy” (below) which shows The Stanleys magnificent knack for laying a crisp fusion of pop hooks across rock a stream of noisy melodic rock. As for the video, the band had a knack for catching the thrill of the music with ideal imagery..

“When we wrote Amy we set out to create an upbeat pop punktastic plea of love,” says Di Renzo. “Lyrically I’m playing the role of a guy with a very big crush on his best female friend trying to let her know how I feel and convince her she should be with me. We laid down layers of bright sparked energetic guitars and bouncy beats. Throw in some catchy melody and I hope we’ve baked something tasty enough to get Amy’s attention!

For the video, were very lucky to work with Aussie award winning Director Johnny Ma who found us emerging actress/dancer punk rock chick extraordinaire Tahlia Russell Johnny’s concept pays tribute to the joys of dancing around the bedroom to your favourite tunes in the morning whilst getting ready to kick off your day, and I feel Amy is a perfect song for this!”
