Arielle LaGuette makes her home in Austin, Texas, but wrote her latest EP while traveling across the country. With ukulele in hand, LaGuette performed everywhere from Denver to Toronto and drew inspiration from the people around her. Her EP combines her signature ukulele-driven melodies with new, effortlessly cool guitar lines. LaGuette’s love songs dive head first into tumultuous emotions while delicately examining the way they fit in with the state of the world. Whether she’s playing an acoustic solo show in a Nashville listening room or an electrifying full-band set in The Live Music Capital, LaGuette’s sound piques your eardrums from the first note. Her timeless vocals shimmer, often shaking up a cocktail of jazz, surf-pop, and folk, with a sound that is both classically vintage and vibrantly modern.
Today Glide is premiering the tune “Settle For You”, a standout on Case of the Times. The song flows with groovy momentum as she examines the common expectations people place on new love. Like the dawn of a new relationship, you’re never really sure where the swelling melody will lead you, but you’re certain you’ll enjoy the ride. Musically, the song is a simple, straightforward rocker with a surf rock groove that makes it perfect for dancing. LaGuette’s vocal freedom is evident from her years performing improv comedy, as “Settle For You” emphasizes the importance of passionate risk-taking and fearless choices.
Reflecting on the song, Arielle has this to say:
“I thought I had put this song to rest a few years back, one of those tunes that never really got recorded and was basically put up on the shelf. Then last year, after mainly playing solo gigs, I had a full band show that needed a longer set – so I pulled out ‘Settle for You’, and it just stuck. We jammed on it almost immediately, and pretty much haven’t stopped jamming on it since. Jordan Burchill (guitarist/producer) became the driving force in re-energizing the song and making it a mainstay in our set. When I started thinking about recording my next EP, we all knew ‘Settle for You’ would be on it.”
