The Mother Hips Celebrate 25th Anniversary With New LP, ‘Chorus’

Beloved California band The Mother Hips announced today the upcoming release of their tenth studio album Chorus, due out June 8. The release will mark the band’s 25th anniversary together.

“It’s Alright,” the album’s first single, is now available for purchase and streaming.

“I can’t wait for the release of our new album, Chorus,” said band co-founder Greg Loiacono. “This is the first album of new material The Hips have put out in several years and I hope our fans love it!”

The Mother Hips will celebrate the album’s official release with a performance at San Francisco’s The Fillmore as part of a benefit for their parent label’s Blue Rose Foundation, which provides preschool scholarships to financially disadvantaged children.

The band recently gave Relix a taste of the album, offering readers of the popular music outlet an exclusive glimpse of the concept video for “It’s Alright.” Produced by Karl Derfler (Tom Waits, Roky Erickson, Dave Matthews), Chorus is their first release since 2013. The Hips have faced plenty of speed bumps in the last five years, including co-founder Tim Bluhm getting severely injured from a speed flying accident and recently having to undergo emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.

In the span of their impressive 25-year career and counting, The Mother Hips have garnered a sunny reputation predicted by their spellbinding live performance, building a dedicated fan base and appearing on bills with the likes of Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams and The Black Crowes. Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “one of the Bay Area’s most beloved live outfits”, Rolling Stone deemed the band “highly inspired,” while The New Yorkerpraised the band’s ability to “sing it sweet and play it dirty.”
