SONG PREMIERE: Hooveriii Get Cosmic with Hazy Headspace Groover “Bird on a Wire”

“For those unfamiliar with Hooveriii, the vibe is that of a driving, psychedelic space rock band, with enough shred-laden, dual-guitar work to impress the heads and more hooks than a Peter Pan (pirate?) convention. This batch of songs blends sweetness and crunch better than your favorite breakfast cereal and the effect lasts longer too. One listen and you’ll have these melodic riffs and caloric choruses buried in your mind grapes so deep you’ll need to have them surgically extracted. If you enjoyed the songs Bert wrote for Mind Meld, you won’t be disappointed by the penmanship Hoover has brought to the table here and there’s even more sonic layers to sink your canines into. It’s not surprising that this version of the band has stuck longer than any other and they’ve already shared stages with Fuzz, ORB, and more. Soon enough, you’ll be seeing them at the top of the bill, blowing the minds of everyone within earshot.” -Lance Barresi (Permanent Records)

On September 14 Hooveriii will release their self-titled album on Permanent Records. The album was recorded by Tomas Dolas (Mr. Elevator, OCS) at Studio 22 in Los Angeles, CA November 2017. We drank a lot of white wine and tequila and hung out with stray cats. While the songs were somewhat rehearsed, we kept things loose and weird. We kept ourselves open to experimentation. There’s saxophone on a few songs that has since incorporated itself into our live set. The studio sessions feature Bert Hoover: Guitar and Vocals, Gabe Flores: Guitar and Sax, Kaz Mirblouk: Bass, Jeff Fribourg: Synths and Shaughnessy Starr: Drums. Tomas plays the Recorder and String Synths on a few songs.”

Today Glide is excited to premiere the song “Bird on a Wire”. The song builds a steady momentum, introducing spacey, psychedelic sound effects that eventually catapult the listener into cosmic jammy chaos. Between the vocals and the instrumentals, the band conjures a sound that feels like some sort of multigenerational hybrid of Tame Impala and the Allman Brothers. True to the spirit of experimentation, there is a groove that never lets up but plenty of flourishes of guitar and weirdly awesome sound effects, making this the kind of song one can imagine to melt faces in the live setting.

The band members describe the song as a “sweet and hazy headspace groover, filtered through our love of repetition and the triumphant lead. ‘Bird on a Wire’ is about sinking into your couch and melting away with your thoughts. We could be here all day.”
