SPINN- Indie Dream Pop Newcomers From Liverpool Got Something To Play

One of the most intriguing ways to discover music is to listen to new up-and-coming artists/bands similar to bands you already enjoy. After venturing off into similar artists on Spotify to The Smiths, couldn’t help but notice a young, charismatic band from Liverpool, England, SPINN. The first song that introduced us to SPINN is a single from 2017 entitled, “Who You Are.”

About a month ago, SPINN released their new single, “It’s Not Getting Any Better,” and has since has helped lock in a busy gig schedule coming up in the England area. We not only had a great time listening to some of their previous music, including their SPINN EP, but it was also astonishing getting to know the band more in a fun interview to preview what’s next for the band.

First, we asked SPINN to introduce themselves. The band consists of Andrew Power (20) Mr Sean McLachlan (20) Mr Louis O’Reilly (21) and Johnny Quinn (19). One of the easiest ways to discover new music is through streaming services. We discovered SPINN on Spotify and instantly got a vibe of The Smiths. “Obviously The Smiths have influenced us as a whole, but individually we have a massive range on influences Andy is into his shoe-gaze, and is always banging on about Ride. Sean has a lot of disco influences. Louis loves U2 and my lyrical influences come from The Cure and The Drums,”replies lead vocalist Johnny.

Since they’re a young up-and-coming group, we assume they listen to a ton of new-age artists or bands. We asked Johnny what new artists and/or bands do they enjoy? He replied, “I can’t speak for the others but my favorites artist from recent years is probably Loyle Carner. I’m big on The Orielles too, they’re doing some boss stuff.

The song that introduced us to SPINN was their single, “Who You Are.” Initially it seemed like a song that is about people pretending to be someone they’re not. “It’s basically a song about how everyone is a poser in their own way. Whether or not they choose to admit it is a different story, but personally I think everybody puts on some sort of persona. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. I just think that’s the way people tick,” replies Johnny.

They’ve got a brutal gig schedule coming up and also have plans to release some more music later on this year as well. “We’ve got a headline tour coming up in the United Kingdom, and got a lot more music coming out this year,” proclaims Johnny. They also have some hopes to make their way to the United States at some point for some shows as well.

Hopefully, there will be some more music released from them in the near future, but for now check out their latest single, “It’s Not Getting Any Better,” available on iTunes, Spotify and other music streaming services.
