SONG PREMIERE: Singer-Songwriter Luke Sital-Singh Delivers Tender Seasonal Ode “Love Is Hard Enough Without The Winter”

Luke Sital-Singh released his debut single ‘Fail For You’ in 2012, introducing the world his deft ability to craft songs with a mesmerizing, piercing emotional quality. The song went on to be featured in numerous TV shows including ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. At the end of 2013, Sital-Singh was featured in the BBC’s Sound of 2014 list and signed to Parlophone records, who released his debut record The Fire Inside later that year.

After a couple of years touring the world and opening for artists such as Villagers, The Staves, Martha Wainwright and Angus and Julia Stone, in 2017 Sital-Singh released his critically-acclaimed sophomore record ‘Time Is A Riddle’. The album’s lead single ‘Killing Me’ has had 10m plays on Spotify, and Luke’s combined streams since 2015 are at almost 120m.

After only releasing a couple albums, Sital-Singh seems himself still in the beginning stages of what will be a long career where his influences seem highly aloft while creating his own method and sound feels most comfortable at this early stage.

“I still kinda feel like I’ve just started,” says Sital-Singh.” My heroes are people like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen who have released what feels like millions of records and show no signs of stopping. In some ways my creative aspiration is more about my outlook. I want to get to a place where I don’t feel quite as precious each time it comes to releasing new music. The way I approach my career at the moment is stunting the muse and I want to feel a lot more free and open to whatever comes along, and not be as scared about each record being the most successful thing I’ve done. But I think it will take a few more years to get to that stage for me.”

As for his artistic growth as a singer-songwriter, the sweet-spot and comfort zone of recording and demoing his own music seems to be most encouraging for Sital-Sing. But it’s his tender delivery that is reminiscent of Eric D Johnson (Fruit Bats) and Andrew Bird, that shows restraint and poignancy.

“Well, that’s probably been the biggest change between my albums,” Vital-Singh explains about this sound. “My debut was very shouty, listening to it now anyway. It sounds like a young artist trying to prove themselves and be heard. And gradually through the albums, I’m chilling out a bit. I don’t feel the need to write pumping big songs at the top of my range vocally. In terms of imagining how songs will sound. I kinda know exactly how I want them to sound as I write them. Especially on this latest one. I’m very much into the whole recording and producing side of music and I’ve grown more and more confident with that as I’ve gone on. More so than my other albums, if you listen to my bedroom demos for the new songs, they don’t sound that different from the finished album versions.”

With the onslaught of December upon us, Glide is proud to premiere “Love Is Hard Enough Without The Winter” from Luke Sital-Singh (below)- a wintry ballad that he himself describes as an escape from the cold and more.

“When you’re deep in a relationship, working out kinks, making and breaking bad habits and basically just doing the sometimes tough work of staying together, the last thing you need is the daily backdrop of a cold, wet, miserable winter,” says Luke of the new single. “So we decided to fuck off to Los Angeles to experience an endless summer.”
