How they do it we don’t know, but somehow Phish always manages to out top themselves each year with their New Year’s gag and this past New Years was no exception. After ushering in 2019 with a spacey “Mercury”, both Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon, donned space suits while Trey was playing a wireless white Fender Stratocaster and Mike was playing a wireless white bass from their K Halloween set. Both were then lifted to the rafters of MSG during the new fan favorite “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.” with its catchy refrain “This Is What Space Smells Like.” Phish brushed off all the Kasvot Växt songs during their four-night run except the funky “Everything Is Hollow” with its “Bright White Light Shining Right Between The Eyes” line. Perhaps the band dusts it off in Mexico during their next shows at Riviera Maya Feb 21-23?
