Robert Walter’s 20th Congress Holds Session at Portland, Oregon’s Doug Fir Lounge (PHOTOS)

Keyboard powerhouse Robert Walter brought his 20th Congress to Portland, Oregon on Thursday, January 10th to give fans a taste of tracks from his 2018 release Spacesuit, as well as compositions he’s created during the decades-long existence of the group. For this run of shows, he brought along a crew of virtuosos, including drummer Simon Lott (Kool Keith, Charlie Hunter), bassist Victor Little (Billy Preston, Charlie Musselwhite) and guitarist Chris Alfort (Cassandra Wilson, Mike Dillon). Tezeta Band, Portland’s own Ethio-Soul outfit, opened the show.

  1. Doug Fir Lounge sucks. They wouldn’t let me into the show at 11:15pm because the door guy said it was almost over despite the fact I was willing to pay full price even for the last few minutes. I work a few blocks away and don’t get off until midnight but a coworker came in early so I could attend the show- i would have bought any band merch for sale as well but nope- denied entry.
