Perennial road warriors YONDER MOUNTAIN STRING BAND have announced plans for their Spring 2019 tour, which kicks off this March in Iowa and wraps in early April in Santa Barbara, CA. The acclaimed jamgrass band recently released-for free-the second edition of “Hines’ Finds,” a compilation of their best recent live jams, as curated by soundman Ben Hines. Check it out here:
The band had a busy 2018, which saw them celebrate their 2000th show, the return of new-mom Allie Kral, the release of the acclaimed Love. Ain’t Love album as well as the first “Hines’ Finds” collection. In a live review of their recent three-night run in San Francisco, Live For Live Music said, “20 minutes into the set, as the instrumentation creeped into the main theme for the Dolly Parton classic ‘Jolene’, the musical liftoff from the mountain to a cosmic space was apparent. Kral cannot receive enough praise for the work she puts into delivering and owning such a heart-wrenching plea so wonderfully…Halfway through the set, the band blew up the ‘Winds of Wyoming’ with fiery, trailblazing leads passed back and forth between Aijala and Johnston. Often times throughout the jam, earthy and grassy gusts of wind intermingled with the harsh psychedelic experience of space wind, much like the nighttime prairie sky.”
YMSB–Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, Ben Kaufmann, Jacob Joliff and Allie Kral–formed in 1998 and have released 11 studio and live albums since, including three #1 Bluegrass Albums chart-toppers.
Talking about the song “Take A Chance On Me,” Taste Of Country said, “Funky’ is just about the last word you’d expect to use to describe bluegrass, but Yonder manage to incorporate a funky groove with a sweet pop vocal hook and sunny vocal harmonies that would be right at home on mainstream pop radio for a track that is delightfully unexpected.”
