SONG PREMIERE: Allman Brown Shares Cathartic Powerful Pop Song “Shapes In The Sun”

Allman Brown is a London-based singer-songwriter influenced by the likes of Bon Iver, James Vincent McMorrow and Sufjan Stevens. Since announcing himself onto the scene in 2013 with the Sons And Daughters EP (the lead track of which recently surpassed 3.5 million streams on Spotify), he has built a solid fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic through a number of his songs being featured on notable TV dramas in both the UK and US.

On May 10th Brown will release his album Darling, It’ll Be Alright, the follow up to his acclaimed 2017 debut album 1000 Years which did very well in the UK, earned him a huge following on Spotify (over 83 million streams, consistently over 1 million monthly listeners) and led to solid organic buzz here in the U.S. The album shows creative growth for an artist who is making exciting pop music and is clearly tapping into the emotions of listeners around the world.

Today Glide is excited to premiere “Shapes In The Sun”, a poignant songs that showcases Brown’s ability to craft sweeping, powerful pop music. Opening with the simple strumming of an acoustic guitar, Brown immediately puts his soft, whispered vocals on display, but the dynamics quickly change as the tempo and instrumentation blossom into a poignant chorus. There are peaks and valleys to the songs, and Brown shows he is capable of inducing chills in his listeners as he belts the chorus with fury and passion that simultaneously feels elegantly restrained and like an emotional release. There is something cathartic about the way Brown sings, and this song stirs an urge to see him perform live and show his skills as the master of pop music he is on his way to becoming.

Allman Brown describes the song in his own words:

“’Shapes In The Sun’ is a touchstone song for the album. It is sonically more ambitious than anything I’ve ever done and is an effort on my part to shift my songwriting perspective from the personal to the universal. The album is me trying to reach beyond my own emotions and tap into something bigger (with a few exceptions) and ‘Shapes In The Sun’ was the first step on that path. I wanted to try and write about the cosmos basically and this is what came out.”
