SONG PREMIERE: Brad Armstrong (Dexateens) Reveals Sacred Charm of “Brother Ford” Off New LP ‘I Got No Place Remembers Me’

The name Brad Armstrong might very well ring familiar to true music listeners in the south, but to others who have missed out on hearing this troubadour masked rocker… maybe it’s about time you catch on. Like now.

Armstrong’s previous band 13ghosts made six records between 2000 and 2012 and hightailed some national press on their third album, Cicada and followed up with a national tour but later Cicada is pulled after a cease and desist order from the Bob Marley Estate based upon the dissatisfaction of a version of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds.”

As still a member of the Dexateens in 2012, Armstrong decides a change of scenery is needed and relocates from Birmingham, AL and moves to the Hudson Valley with his wife and daughters. He writes his first solo record titled Empire and Armstrong starts doing shows again, playing with folks like John Moreland and Azure Ray. Charlie Parr and new fans and listeners have tuned in and are all aboard on Brad Armstrong.

In 2018, Cornelius Chapel decides they want to re-issue Empire on vinyl. Armstrong says, Hey, hang on, how about issuing this next record instead? Cornelius Chapel says, How about we do them both? Armstrong says, Ok, that would be very nice, thank you. He makes the record. It is called I Got No Place Remembers Me and its out April 19th.

Glide is proud to premiere “Brother Ford” off the upcoming LP – a song about a traveling preacher in the first part of the 20th century. It is a piece where the evil bastard preacher turns out to be the one ordained by God, and the traditionally good character who is seeking out the truth is the one ruined by it in the end. Armstrong sings with a fervently emotive directness that is reminiscent of Patterson Hood and Levon Helm.
