Jeff Tweedy To Release New Album ‘Warmer’ As Record Store Day Exclusive On 4/13

Jeff Tweedy will release a new album, WARMER, on April 13th via dBpm Records as a Record Store Day exclusive. This initial, vinyl-only edition is limited to 5,000 copies worldwide. The album comes out in the midst of an almost entirely sold-out solo tour of North America and Australia (tickets are available at wilcoworld.net). Today, he presents the video for lead single, “Family Ghost.”

WARMER is a sister album to last year’s WARM,Jeff’s first-ever collection of original solo songs. The two albums were produced and recorded during the same studio sessions at Wilco’s renowned Chicago studio, The Loft. “WARMER came behind WARM – recorded in the same burst, motivated by the same impetus, overflowing with the same consoling ethos,” describes George Saunders, who wrote the liner notes for WARM Lead single “Family Ghost” is a reflection on the difficulty of understanding and eliminating the types of casual and systemic racism pervasive in Jeff’s southern Illinois upbringing. The song’s accompanying video distorts footage of crowds until the images are an unrecognizable sea of color and beauty.

At some point I separated the songs from the WARM/WARMER session into two records with individual character, but still tried to keep the overall tone and texture of the combined session consistent,” says Jeff. “In a lot of ways these two records could have been released as a double LP. WARMER means as much to me as WARM and might just as easily have been released as the first record of the pair.
