VIDEO PREMIERE: Kempt Delivers Dream Pop Jewel Via “The Commune” & Shares Remix Version

Kempt is James Hanna (ex. Asobi Seksu) and MC Wolfe (ex. Dance for the Dying). Formed in Brooklyn in the winter of 2018, the duo marries Hanna’s atmospheric and heavily layered guitar work with MC’s ethereal vocals over sub-heavy, goth-inspired electro beats.

Kempt ’s live show adds to the intensity with hypnotic strobe lights and video projections. Complementing the wall of textured guitar and haunting vocal harmonies which glide in and out of focus above their shimmering blend of Dreampop, Electro, and Noise.

Glide is thrilled to premiere the official video for “The Commune,” a dream pop jewel that shines with nods to Wild Nothing and Cold Cave. Kempt presents a modern twist on the results an ethereal meets indie rock duo can achieve via tasteful nods to new wave precursors and present-day sensibilities.

“The Commune video is influenced by late 80’s experimental industrial, synthpop videos and Gaspar Noe,” says Hanna. “Produced by Lionel from Brooklyn’s chamber-pop band Glass Valley the intent is to translate Kempt’s electrogaze-dreampop sound into something that is visually  overwhelming but supports rather than distracts from the song.”

Glide is also graced with the pleasure to premiere the remix version of “The Commune”  (below) which of course takes a pop foundation, dips it into a cornucopia of beats, unleashing an appetizing result.

“After two false starts, we found our groove and turned heady shoegaze into a dreamy deep cut for the club. This is our first remix as a duo, but hopefully not our last…” says Hanna.
