VIDEO PREMIERE: Mosa Delivers Celestial Folk and Shiny Harmonies On “Mama’s Got Brand New Shoes”

The passion project of New York’s Melissa Frabotta – with a big up from producer and guitarist Phil Anthony – Mosa is a band born out of kicking off the treasonous expectations life can heap upon the youth. On their latest releases, “Hard Times” and “Mama’s Got Grand New Shoes,” Frabotta paints Rockwellian curios, never entirely at ease with the perfectly placed ephemera, only to hastily remove herself and remind the listener of the unrealities we’ve all been trained to adore. Though the lyrical themes here deal with the frustration of modern expectations and the complexity born from simplicity, the music itself revels in all of the poignant passion of folk-rock’s finer moments in the last twenty years.

Chiefly recorded live to tape in upstate New York in a concerted effort to create a nurturing and fecund recording environment: “We were really trying to focus on the sound and also the experience; recording is such a personal thing and you want to make it fun — that way you don’t feel tainted along the way. You want to feel good and proud of [the record].” Both new songs effectively encapsulate what has made Mosa such a magnetic live presence, while also serving to remind the listener that there is far more to come. “

Glide is proud to premiere the official video for “Mama’s Got Brand New Shoes” (below) a sublime ray of celestial folk, earthy joy and graceful melodies that blossom with a purism reminiscent of Yola and Brandi Carlile. The track sparkles with a joyous boogie that takes listeners down the way of 60’s stalwarts Canned Heat, with an expressive candor that radiates of self-expression.

“We always dreamed of recording down in Nashville, because it has this home away from home feeling,” says Frabotta. “Nashville has a great energy and vibe that makes you feel warm, and we really love the community. We were lucky to line up some time at The Bomb Shelter while we were down there, and had the opportunity to record live to tape. It was such a comfortable experience and felt like we were hanging out an old friend’s house, only these friends had vintage gear, tape machines, and a refined palette for local eats. Our engineer, Drew Carroll, made it so easy for us to just focus on the music and the hang. I’m pretty sure he even introduced us to Zapp’s Voodoo chips, which we were addicted to for the remainder of our stay in Nashville. We just ran a few takes, and didn’t have to worry about edits or overanalyzing our performance. We just wanted to capture the vibe of the room. Big thanks to Andrija Tokic for having us, Drew Carroll for the engineering and voodoo chips, Adam Dobkin for the video and editing, and Sam Stauff for mixing it for us back home in New York.”
