The latest installment of the Grateful Dead’s weekly archival stream Shakedown Stream features the group’s July 2nd, 1989 concert from Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, MA. Previously released in theatres nationwide as part of the Dead’s Meet Up At The Movies series in 2016, this selection from the band’s red-hot 1989 Summer tour features a somewhat unorthodox setlist – the show opens with an adventurous take on “Playing in the Band”, a song normally utilized as a second-set jam vehicle – as well as strong playing throughout, with a particularly charged version of Brent Mydland’s signature “Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hey Jude” medley that anchors the closing set.
This week’s stream will once again kick things off with a live chat hosted by Dead archivist David Lemieux & SiriusXM host Gary Lambert with special guest Bob Weir, who will be participating in a virtual Q&A with audience members.
Watch the latest episode of Shakedown Stream this Friday, May 8th at 8PM EST at the Grateful Dead’s official YouTube page.
