David Ramirez Announces New Album ‘My Love Is A Hurricane’ Out 7/17

Austin, TX-based artist David Ramirez has announced a forthcoming new album, My Love Is A Hurricane, set to release July 17via Sweetworld Records / Thirty Tigers. For the introspective 10-song set, Ramirez teamed up with Dallas producer Jason Burt — who recently collaborated with Leon Bridges and John Mayer on their new single “Inside Friend” and has worked with artists such as Sarah Jaffe and Paul Cauthen as well — to layer his widely acclaimed vocals atop “misty psychedelic undertones and potent gospel arrangements” (NPR Music). Originally meant to be a collection of love songs dedicated to Ramirez’s partner, the resulting set instead charts the tumultuous journey of falling in and out of love through piano ballads, moody synths, and heavy R&B influences. This impressively executed sonic expansion can be heard prominently on the album’s title track, out today.

Of “My Love Is A Hurricane,” Ramirez offers, “I was born in August of 1983 just days after hurricane Alicia hit my hometown of Houston. As my relationship started ripping at the seams, I began to think of this storm that was a precursor to my birth. Was there something in the universe or the stars that imprinted a characteristic of chaos in my blood during my last few days in the womb? Was I destined to wreak havoc everywhere I went?”

On this Saturday, May 23, Ramirez will celebrate the record announcement with “All Request Live: A Celebration,” which will begin at 8pm CT via his YouTube and Facebook channels. Ramirez offers to fans, “At most shows, I shut down requests, but this Saturday all are welcome. Let’s be together again. I’ve missed you all terribly.”
