Glide Magazine’s Medium Fidelity Podcast Episode 3: Gwarsenio Hall of ‘Two Minutes to Late Night’

At the intersection of comedy and metal sits Jordan Olds, more popularly known by his alter ego, Gwarsenio Hall. With a single season of his online series, Two Minutes to Late Night, a heavy metal send up of traditional late night comedy shows, Olds showed the world that the two seemingly disparate conditions of brutality and hilarity could, and perhaps even should, be brought together more often.

More recently, however, Olds and his alter ego have found new success with the wildly popular Two Minutes to Late Night Bedroom Sessions. An otherwise bright spot in a year that seems to threaten everyone’s sanity and safety, the new series, sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic and lock downs, finds the mastermind bringing together a wide variety of musicians from across the heavy metal and hardcore spectrum to records new covers from artists as varied as Danzig and Kate Bush.

For the third episode of Glide Magazine’s Medium Fidelity Podcasts, hosts Cody Villafana and James Roberts sat down with Gwarsenio to discuss the logistics of creating metal arrangements of classic songs and the surprising issues that come from trying to assemble new supergroups on a weekly basis. The three also wax philosophical about the changing world of live music and touring in a post-pandemic world.
