New West Records will release an archival Drive-By Truckers live recording as a part of its acclaimed Live From Austin, TX series on October 23rd, 2020. The 13-song performance was originally filmed for the legendary PBS television series Austin City Limits and will be issued on vinyl for the first time as 180 gram double LPs housed in full-color gatefold sleeves. The recording has been remastered from original sources and feature liner notes written by Austin City Limits producer Terry Lickona. Recorded on September 23rd, 2008 while touring in support of their Brighter Than Creation’s Dark studio album, Live From Austin, TX was originally released as a CD/DVD combo on July 7th, 2009. The band lineup featured Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, Shonna Tucker, John Neff, Brad Morgan, and Jay Gonzalez. Lauded by fans as an instant classic and hailed by the Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood as the band’s best filmed performance to date, this acclaimed recording was their first appearance on Austin City Limits. Hood states in the album liner notes, “As someone who’s watched this show since I was a little boy, it’s one of those things I’ve most wanted to do, always.” In addition to fan favorites like “Let There Be Rock,” “Marry Me,” and an over-the-top eleven minute version of “18 Wheels of Love,” the show highlights a handful of selections from Brighter Than Creation’s Dark, an album Hood at the time called “by far our most eclectic, yet cohesive, and best album ever.”
On November 20th, Drive-By Truckers’ New West Records catalog will be reissued on limited edition, 180 gram color vinyl. 2003’s Decoration Day will be available on Clear & Gold Marble Vinyl, 2004’s The Dirty South will be available on Clear & Blue Marble Vinyl, 2006’s Blessing & A Curse will be available on Clear & Purple Marble Vinyl, 2008’s Brighter Than Creation’s Dark will be available on Clear & Black Marble Vinyl, and 2009’s The Fine Print: A Collection of Oddities & Rarities will be available on Clear & Green Marble Vinyl. All titles are limited to 2,500 a piece and are available for pre-order NOW via Independent Retailers.
