Hailing from the western North Carolina town of Brevard, singer-songwriter and musician Clint Roberts blends his deep, meaningful lyrics with guitar, pedal, and lap steel, harmonica, percussion, and keys. Roberts’ oozes authenticity of Americana music with the boldness of roots-rock. Characterized by Grammy Award winning producer Ben Fowler (Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ruby Amanfu) as having a “big voice,” Roberts has the innate ability to capture genuine emotions in his songwriting while expressing a passionate awareness of the world around him. This talent is perfectly showcased in his forthcoming debut album, due out February 2021 via Carry On Music.
Recorded at “Ocean Way Nashville” studios, the creative team collaborating with Clint on “The Drifter” included Fowler and a stellar cast of musicians including Gordan Mote (Keys), Dan Dugmore (guitar, pedal steel, lap steel), Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion), Brian Sutton (acoustic guitar, mandolin), Mark Hill (bass).
Roberts is the first artist to sign to both a label and management deal with Carry On Music — a partnership between the artist and the global music and management community. Of the partnership, Carry On Music President Tom Lipsky states, “We see Clint as a career artist and an influential songwriter, someone whose creative contributions will be felt, respected and enjoyed for years to come.”
Today Glide is offering an exclusive premiere of Roberts performing the “The Drifter” acoustically. Showcasing Roberts’ soft vocal power and his ability to craft heartfelt, lyrically potent folk songs, “The Drifter” focuses on the feeling of wanting love but not being able to get it. The song is an honest and intimate reflection from a songwriter who draws his influence from contemporaries like Jason Isbell and the late Justin Townes Earle alongside legends like Doc Watson and Tom T Hall.
Clint Roberts shares the inspiration behind the song:
“I wrote ‘The Drifter’ when I had fallen in love with someone who wasn’t in a position to be in a relationship with me, and who I was unsure about their feelings for me in the first place. The song is an expression of the myriad of questions and doubts I had about my future with that person, despite wanting one so badly.”
