LISTEN: The Drives Make Thick & Bleeding Indie Guitar Rock On “The Comedown”

The Drives formed in early 2017 around bedroom recordings of Andrew Levin and Casey Chen. After Geo Botelho joined the band later that year, The Drives started gigging around Southern California and developing an online buzz.

Check out the raw and intoxicating new single, “The Comedown” (below) from The Drives. With striking guitar color cutting across a thick bottom of drums and bass, “The Comedown” is a sturdy indie 101 effort full of contemplative lyrical wit. Levin has a scratchy drawl reminiscent of Britt Daniel of Spoon, while the band conjures the urban indie of Nada Surf.

“This is definitely one of my favorite songs we have ever recorded as a band. The key was capturing the energy of our band when we play live. At the beginning when I showed the intro to the band, the parts started coming together. We also played the song live (pre-quarantine of course) before we went into the studio which helped iron out the song even more. Playing the song in front of a live crowd helps you capture the live energy when you eventually go into the studio,” says Levin.
