SONG PREMIERE: David Garfield Lays Down Stunning Rhythms On ‘”Shufflin'” Feat. Six Guitarists

David Garfield is a true guru in the musical realm of soul, jazz, and classic rock, where his contributions have been vast, artistic, and profound. He has recorded with Smokey Robinson, Cher, Larry Carlton, Steve Lukather, Spinal Tap, George Benson, and more, and your sure to have heard his songs just by “being around.” Garfield’s resume is lengthy including renowned songwriter, producer, bandleader (of Los Angeles-based contemporary world jazz collectives Karizma and Los Lobotomys), arranger, recording artist, record label owner (Creatchy Records), session and touring musician, musical director, and composer of various commissioned themes for global organizations.

Today (4/1) would have been drummer extraordinaire Jeff Porcaro’s 67th birthday and in 1997 Garfield recorded Tribute To Jeff, a guest-filled album that was dedicated to drummer Jeff Porcaro, who died in 1992. Glide is proud to premiere “Shufflin'” an in-the-pocket stunner that showcases a “Black Friday” Steely Danish groove where Porcaro would have fit in perfectly. ‘Shufflin” is the first in a series of eight recordings of the same song featuring guitarists and musicians from all over the world. The full album, ’Shufflin’ Outside the Box’, will be released later this year. Some of the musicians participating in the project include Paul Shaffer, Steve Gadd, Will Lee, Bernard Purdie, Martin Barr, Snuffy Walden, Albert Lee and Leland Sklar. Bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas, percussionist Lenny Castro, pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore and Shannon are also featured.  Check out the smokin’ number below…

“I’ve always wanted to cut a track in Nashville. I was able to go there with the help of my friend Shannon Forrest, the drummer for Toto and one of Nashville’s most popular drummers. I had met Shannon when Toto were rehearsing in Los Angeles. He’s worked with all the big names and has produced many world class artists like Michael McDonald. He got some of the best cats in Nashville to track with me. When we recorded ’Shufflin’,’ the local guys made their own chart using the Roman numeral system unique to Nashville. I watched in awe as they went over the chord changes in this different way of writing a rhythm chart,” says Garfield.
