Belaver is the project of NYC-based songwriter Ben Godfrey. In 2014 Godfrey released his debut EP, Wild Desperation, produced by songwriter Robert Ellis, with elegantly stark instrumentation and ominous murderous narratives. In 2019 Robert Ellis produced a follow-up Belaver LP, True Love of Crime, as a lush contrast to Wild Desperation with electronic elements over themes of lovers on the run.
With a soothing vibrato, Godfrey sets an intimate and lovely setting on his new single “70’s Adventure”. The rhythmic push is simple and sweet, colored with tactical guitar lines and a warm bass pulse. “70’s Adventure” is a lyrically engaging picturesque indie-folk ballad that candidly sounds likes Carseat Headrest in slow motion.
Both the song and the video for “70’s Adventure” are the natural culmination of a decade of collaboration and friendship between Belaver (Ben Godfrey) and Robert Ellis, who met on the early 2000s Houston DIY scene – playing on each other’s records, touring in broken-down VW buses and producing shows.
