LISTEN: Sixteen Jackies Lay Down Vulnerable Pop Goodness On “Just Kids”

Sixteen Jackies’ Hostile Architecture is an EP about the baggage that comes with growing up queer and closeted and the problems that that baggage creates down the line. We tried out a bunch of new vibes and textures on this set of songs and hope it comes across as both eclectic and cohesive. The process of putting this project together ultimately led me to unpack and understand my own experiences through a new lens. The EP will be out on 10/29/21 via Born Losers Records.

Check out the vocally enraptured new single, “Just Kids” from Sixteen Jackies that touches on various vulnerable subjects atop a tonally distinct compositional flair. The band has a gift for ’70s pop and psych pastiche that dabbles into the worlds of 10CC and Of Montreal.

“Just Kids” is about a closeted boy losing his virginity in the woods and the fear of being outed that pulls his strings. It’s the first song on the EP and thematically it’s kinda the flower bed that the rest of the songs grow from. I like how the breezy yacht rock atmosphere plays against the insecurity and desperation in the lyrics,” says the band.
