Andrew Thoreen is a singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. An avant-garde pop traditionalist with outsider art sensibilities, Thoreen is a producer, arranger, session musician, and sideman who is inspired and informed by forward-thinking musicians like David Byrne, Dirty Projectors, and Andrew Bird.

With an old-world sonic feel, that rings with a Dr. Dog old-timey meets new odor, Thoreen is innovative with his bass and synth color, while dynamically tickling our senses with dancing vocals and off-beat horn placement. The song is rich and sturdy while vulnerable and innovative, a lovely combination forging a potent indie-folk creation.
“I just want to do right by you” was a lyric that we kept going back to in writing this song over the last two years. We all get stuck trying to figure out what to say or what to do in order to “do right” by someone. In our thinking, in our own doubt, in our judgments of ourselves. Writing this song with my friend and longtime collaborator Jonathan Sunde (J.E. Sunde) was a journey through this notion. The song doesn’t try to tell you what specifically to do to “do right,” but hopefully it demonstrates a posture of the heart that allows us to be interrupted and to do something outside of ourselves to find the answer to this question,” says Thoreen.
