SONG PREMIERE: Drew Beskin & The Sunshine Conjure Big Indie Rock Sound on “Lisa Simpson Fangs”

Drew Beskin released his third solo album, Problematic for the People, July of 2021. Not one to sit around, Beskin formed a new project called Drew Beskin & The Sunshine featuring Tommy Trautwein (Well Kept, Wanderwild, Elijah Johnston), Gideon Johnston (Hotel Fiction, Elijah Johnston) and Elijah Johnston (Elijah Johnston, Well Kept) as “The Sunshine”. The group started recording tracks for their upcoming LP (coming summer 2022) in November of 2020 at Trautwein’s home studio in Athens, GA called WBAZ (We Bought A Zoo Records). They recorded 11 songs over the course of 11 days writing songs for each session. Each day produced one full song. October 15th, they are releasing the singles “Lisa Simpson Fangs” and “Horror Movie Plot” to share with the masses a sampling of the heat that “The Sunshine” plans to drop in 2022.

Today Glide is excited to offer an exclusive premiere of one of those singles, “Lisa Simpson Fangs.” Mixing folksy acoustic instrumentation with indie rock fervor, the band lays down infectious harmonies and dreamy sounds. As with other projects from Drew Beskin, you can also hear his love of power pop shine through, especially in the big, exuberant finale of the song. There is a hopeful energy to the music that propelled forward with the unique drumming and soaring guitars, all of which gets you excited for what we can expect from Beskin and his band in the future.

“Lisa Simpson Fangs” was the 6th song we recorded as a group. By the time we got to this track we had already recorded half an album’s worth of tunes and we were all very much on the same page. One of the quicker songs to come together and collectively one of our favorite tunes from the project. I came to the session with the song written but we would text each other in the days leading up to our session excited over ideas after hearing the demo. Gideon (Johnston, drummer) had this idea for an Animal Collective – style drum beat he knew he wanted to put into a song and we made it work for the second verse. We were really excited when that all came together. The song was inspired by one of my favorite Simpsons episodes (Last Exit to Springfield) where Lisa has to get braces. – Drew Beskin
