With their new album Get Humble, due out October 29th, Handsome Jack digs again into the classic American musical lexicon (blues, soul, country, rock n’roll) to craft a timeless rock album ideal for house and block parties. Get Humble is packed with soulful vocals, swampy guitars, countrified rock, and west coast vocal harmonies. Their most accomplished album to date.
Hailing from Lockport NY, Handsome Jack plays a fusion of boogie soul rock n roll that has earned the admiration of fellow rock travelers such as Chris Robinson and Neal Casal (CRB, Black Crowes), Zachary Gabbard (Buffalo Killers), and Ben McLeod (All Them Witches) among many others.
Handsome Jack is Jamison Passuite (guitar/vocals), Joey Verdonselli (bass/vocals), and Bennie Hayes (drums/vocals).
Today Glide is excited to premiere the band’s video for “Got You Where I Want You,” a clear standout on the new album. It’s fitting that the setting and narrative of the video are that of a revivalist preacher church ceremony in a tent, complete with poisonous snakes. The big-hearted rock and roll anthem is loaded with soulful vocals and brassy flourishes to make it a swaggering Southern groover. In a time when so many people are susceptible to misinformation and drinking the Kool-Aid, the song feels especially relevant. The song and video culminate when the band shows up – with frontman Jamison Passuite looking like a rock and roll Jesus – and blows the lids off these brainwashed revelers.
Frontman Jamison Passuite describes the inspiration behind the song and video:
“We all have bad habits and people or things we rely on for temporary relief. Nowadays there are a billion bogus self-help gurus and get rich quick schemes that could all be yours for just a small fee. In “Got You Where I Want You” we take a look at these ideas through the lens of con artist preachers vying for the attention and money of their parishioners. Luckily, the prophet of rock and roll shows up at the end and saves the day. Our friend, Nate Chateaux, came up with the video concept and filmed and directed. We had such a blast making this one with our friends and family on what must’ve been the hottest damn day of the year. It took a whole lot of pizza and beer but we persevered.”
