LISTEN: On “Dairy Made,” Steve Stout Pours Evocative ’70s Harmonies

Self-produced DIY Indie-Psych Folk Steve Stout is due to release his debut solo effort. ‘Dairy Made’ flater this year on SWELL Records.

A dissonant piano sets the mood, as Stout’s evocative vocal touchings paint a poignant picture on his new single, “Dairy Made.” Touched with psychedelic guitars and a simple backbeat, Stout is playful yet demands a sense of serious listenership of lo-fi AM Gold harmonies that reflect 10CC and Todd Rundgren.

“I went back home to where I grew up in Byram, New Jersey, stopping at one of our favorite ice cream spots on the way on a dreary day (the image is from that day on my film camera). My parents have an amazing cheap upright piano that reminds me of the Beatles’ recordings and wrote this tune in a few minutes after getting to their house. The piano was a voice memo and I added the rest back in Nashville in my studio.”
