LISTEN: The Grease Traps Drop Daptone-ish Vibes On “More and More (and More)”

Recorded between Kelly Finnigan’s Transistor Sound in San Francisco and Fifty Filth Studio in Oakland and mixed by Orgone producer Sergio Rios and Kevin O’ Dea, Solid Ground is the awaited debut album by The Grease Traps. The album is set for release on November 5th.

Sink into the Daptone-esque single, “More and More (and More)” from The Grease Traps. With an old school soul depth of feeling, the vocal is compressed and beautifully controlled in breath and feel. Permeated with tasteful guitar styling the track reverberates with the timeless flow of Durand Jones & The Indications.

“More and More (and More)” started out as a pleasing soul chord progression that guitarist, Kevin O’Dea, had been kicking around for a few months.  After showing it to the band, they quickly built a solid foundation around it and developed a story about the trials of love that fit the somber groove.  They’ve always been fond of how the laid back verse and chorus section transitions into the outro, which features a stirring guitar solo and some heartfelt pleading from the Gata. This track was the first and only take recorded live at Transistor Sound Studio direct to their Tascam 388.  It was then mixed by Kevin and keys man, Aaron Julin, down to stereo on the Traps’ Otari 5050 tape machine at Fifty Filth Studio in Oakland.  The tape-to-tape mixdown imparts some extra vintage flavor that really enhances the vibe of the tune.  It is always part of the Traps’ live set as it allows them to “bring it down” for a minute to give their audience a breather.
