LISTEN: Ben Larsen Bobs & Weaves With Freewheeling Roots Folk On “Drop”

Ben Larsen is a long time resident of Portland, OR where he began his music career thirteen years ago. A singer-songwriter, and multi instrumentalist, Larsen has been busy developing and producing his solo project. Before embarking on his current endeavor Larsen was the bandleader and frontman for acoustic roots group, Crow and the Canyon. Today he spends most of his time focusing on the Ben Larsen Band or touring as a solo act. A guitarist, composer, mandolinist and fiddler, Larsen is always on the search for a deeper and more genuine understanding and connection to music and listeners.

“Drop,” is the title track off of Ben Larsen’s newly released EP. Complete with a top notch string quartet arrangement and unrelenting drive, Larsen renders a sobering account of the Dunkirk that current and future generations of this planet must face. Seamless and exquisitely dynamic, “Drop” bobs and weaves, unfolding into an ascendant soundscape that ultimately elicits feelings of hope and wholeness.

“I started writing Drop five or six years ago. I was looking at a stream in the moonlight and imagining the first drop of water that eventually became that stream. Ultimately it’s a song about the environmental crisis we’re currently living in. It’s also meant to be a reminder that connection to the earth and the elements is always available to us.”
