SONG PREMIERE: Jeff Hulett Displays Twangy Harmony Precision Via “Spin Your Wheels”

It’s a semi-common occurrence within indie rock circles where a prior drummer transforms himself into a frontman and lead singer: and a very capable one of that. Think Dave Grohl, Orville Peck, and Father John Misty (Joshua Tillman). You can add Jeff Hulett to the cause of beats rebuilding himself as a sturdy songsmith, having helmed the stool in Memphis-based Snowglobe for a number of years. Now the artist has honed his sound with a fully-realized sound that is intimately charming and melodically accessible in the lo-fi twangy vein of Lord Huron, Caamp and Gregory Alan Isakov.

Hulett is back with a new single that Glide is premiering titled “Spin Your Wheels,” where Hulett grabs the song with a tart emotional tone, gravelly undertone, and melodic precision that makes the relative upstart sound years beyond his vocal age. “Spin Your Wheels” is part of a Double A-side split single, called Sun Recordings, releasing on Friday, the 25th, on Seattle’s Small Batch Records.
