Chicago’s Panda Riot certainly rekindles the glory years of indie rock where shoegazing and dream pop bands like Slowdive, Ride and Lush filled our ears with swirling guitar chords, and hazy vocals, and accessible jams. Rebecca Scott (vocals, keys) and Brian Cook (drum machine, guitar) are the ignition switches of Panda Riot and continue their emotionally zestful compositional scope with their new full-length Extra Cosmic. With a new drummer on board (Brian Hilderbrand), the band’s multi-dimensional sound now takes on a new aura that makes Panda Riot a must-see live show.
Glide is premiering the song and video for “‘E.S.P.” a song about trying to connect with someone and never quite getting there. The video is made up of hand traced and animated images mostly derived from a video of a live performance. Every second of the video represents 8 drawings and the end result expresses that ‘almost-there’ sense of connection that the song is about. Check out the song and video below and see why this band lives up to their sound references and then some…
“Every time you think you’ve got it, you realize you’re still passing one another by and not quite syncing up. You’re trying to read each others’ minds but you just can’t quite make the connection. Sonically, the music came about through Brian’s experimentation during the pandemic with building more and more complex guitar pedals. This song was written just as he was finishing up a clone of a Lovetone Ringstinger With the fresh perspective of the pedal, the song came out instantly,” says the band.
