WATCH: The Who Perform “Behind Blue Eyes” On ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’

The Who appeared Friday night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in a taped performance from their 2022 gig from the Teenage Cancer Trust concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, U.K.

The band, who famously penned the lyric “I hope I die before I get old,” and now includes only singer Roger Daltry (78) and guitarist Pete Townshend (76), busted out a powerful acoustic rendition of “Behind Blue Eyes” backed by their touring band, which includes guitarist/backup singer and Pete’s younger brother Simon Townshend, bassist Phil Spalding, percussionist Jodie Linscott, keyboardist Geraint Watkins, violinist Charlie Hart, accordion player Andy Cutting, and backing vocalist Billy Nichols.

Daltry, standing at the mic and belting out the lyrics to “Behind Blue Eyes,” literally stood in stark contrast to the seated Townsend, who still strummed his acoustic guitar with the vicious attack one would expect from the man famous for producing deafening riffs from his Stratocaster.

The Who Hits Back! 2022 North American tour, which will see the band perform their timeless rock masterpieces with orchestras throughout Canada and the U.S., and will include their first performance in Cincinnati since the infamous concert disaster 43 years ago where 11 people were trampled to death — all but one between the ages of 15 and 22 years old — kicks off April 22 in Hollywood, Fla. The tour comprises two legs — a spring tour and a fall tour.

Ringo Starr’s son, Zak Starkey, will again man the hot seat, playing drums on The Who Hits Back! tour.
