LISTEN: GRITS. Displays Dynamic Soul & Grit On “I Won”

GRITS. is a rock n roll band born with a Southern soul that could only have been bred in Brooklyn. Their debut release Darlin’ has racked up over 4 million streams and earned them a dedicated following of nearly 70k monthly listeners around the world. Their upcoming full-length album marks the band’s first time working with Vince Chiarito (Black Pumas, Charles Bradley) and it truly captures the essence of a band’s ever-evolving sound.

Sometimes it’s necessary to “agree to disagree” and sometimes ya gotta just dig in your heels and stick by your guns. The latest release “I Won”, from Brooklyn’s GRITS., decides to go with the latter in a dynamic, steady crescendo of a song brimming with soul and grit. If Daptone and Matador Records had a baby, “I Won” might be what its cries would sound like.

“I Won has long been a go-to opener of our live set for how it sets the tone for an energetic and powerful show. So it only made sense for it to be Side 1, Track 1, and the first single off our upcoming debut full-length album Love Gone Wrong. The album title also fittingly comes from a lyric in the song — “Can we talk about the stress that we put on ourselves? And our memories of love gone wrong..” It’s different than GRITS.’ typical sound — it’s a little grittier, a little more intense, but that’s what’s makes it a stand-out in our live shows and on the album. The video for the song is the band’s first real high production value piece and was directed by our very own Nicholas Grau who plays keys in the band and is also an accomplished director in his own right. We’re super excited to share this track with the world and very much look forward to releasing the next 5 singles over the coming months,” says the band.
