Knoxville’s Mark O’Polo Channels Animal Collective On Cosmic “Old Ghost, New Haunt”

“Old Ghost, New Haunt”, is the covertly intriguing metaphysical-themed single from Knoxville’s Mark O’Polo. The melody has an inescapably soothing Animal Collective chant-like quality that hovers over the repetitive rhythmic patterns like fog over the Great Smokies. A flourish of drum samples and synths add just the right cosmic touch the song needs to come alive without falling unnecessarily far through the looking glass.

“Old Ghost, New Haunt” tells the story of a mild-mannered man turned mischievous ghost intent on having all the fun in the afterlife he missed out on the first time around. It’s no coincidence I found myself writing this tune while celebrating/acknowledging my 40th trip around the sun. It’s really just a little note to remind myself to have a little fun out there. For the video, I worked with one of my favorite creative collaborators, Chris Echols, whose illustrations constantly blow my mind and really brought the concept to life.
