Humans seem to have a knack for harnessing deep uncertainties and fear regarding the future and then, somehow, more often than not finding a way to make those fears a reality. Referencing sci-fi books from past generations is a case in point. On Colyn Cameron’s latest single “Deepfakes”, these uncertainties are eased slightly by Cameron’s inviting yet slightly mischievous vocal delivery set to a psilocybin-compatible soundtrack reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s 1972 Obscured by Clouds release. Be on the lookout for the new full-length album Freehand, due later this year.
“The video creator, Max Farrell, and I have some mutual friends & I thought his style would really suit the aesthetics of the song. We wanted it to be an extension of the lyrical mood, & I like how he summarizes it here: “Colyn and I took a trip through the archive to craft a vintage sci-fi inspired story about alienation, world warping, body re/de construction, and hesitancy surrounding our technological future.”
