WATCH: DOMi & JD BECK Bring “Take A Chance” To ‘Kimmel’ With Anderson .Paak

Armed with endless imagination and relaxed demeanor, up-and-coming jazz duo DOMi & JD BECK brought their latest single, “Take A Chance”, to Kimmel last night (July 18). With a special appearance from the always mesmerizing Anderson .Paak, who also signed the duo to his newly formed label Apeshit earlier this year, the duo showcased their ability to make smooth R&B cuts with .Paak taking vocal duty.

DOMi & JD BECK are masters of their respective instruments. DOMi’s twinkling keys can turn into an onslaught of notes coming through her fingers at jarring speeds while JD is pounding through one of his technically proficient drum patterns that shatter music theory. Together, they have become one of the brightest young acts in music and their resume speaks for itself. The duo signed to the legendary Blue Note Records this year before multi-hyphenate Anderson .Paak agreed to release their debut album NOT TiGHT, which is set to be released on July 29. They have been seen backing artists like Ariana Grande, Mac Demarco, and Thundercat, the latter two also have credited features on the upcoming debut.

Their late-night debut has only added to the excitement and wonder surrounding DOMi & JD Beck. The stage was decorated as an exotic flower show with dark greens and vibrant yellows that fit perfectly with the mood their music creates. “Take A Chance” switches in and out of tempos so quickly it sounds like each member has an extra limb to help keep pace. The first half is a harmony-filled soul ballad that features .Paak rapping the verses until all three of the performers join in to form a beautifully executed hook. While the purely instrumental second half shows the duo’s ability to pull influence from any era of jazz and make it their own.
