Originally from the Houston area, Denitia currently lives in New York’s Hudson Valley. As a teenager in a trailer in the woods, she spent her days studying the art of rock, alt-grunge, and self-revelation, melding it with her baseline in traditional roots music. Self-taught and unafraid, Denitia improvised her newfound language with the guitar and keyboard, and gained confidence performing at praise and worship services. She has performed for popular platform COLORS and has placed her music on the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning feature “Nanny”, FX’s “Better Things”, Comedy Central’s Broad City and so much more. She has shared stages with SZA, The Internet, and Tank and the Bangas with prominent festival features at SXSW, Afropunk and the Firefly Music Festival.
Happy to bring Denitia back to the pages of Glide with her latest steel-laden Americana single “All the Sweet Tea”. Regional imagery is referenced with the authority of someone who has actually done their share of traveling with a delicate, sleek voice that seems incapable of doing wrong. The secret weapon here though is a melody so natural and unforced that it slides right into a bit of unused space in your subconscious without any plans to leave any time soon.
“I had that first line stuck in my head for a while, the first verse came to me all at once. And I wondered, well if time is always ticking where does that leave me? And I felt sort of humbled by the fact that I’m not in control of it – this whole vast, enormous world exists, we all exist at the same time and that inspired me. The song doesn’t really pretend to answer any questions, I was just sort of marveling at it all,” says Denitia.
