Zoe Boekbinder’s Exposed and Raw Storytelling Is Delivered Via “I Am Yesterday”

Known for their collaborations with Ani DiFranco, Amanda Palmer, Neil Gaiman, Mirah, and more, from May 2010 to December 2014 Boekbinder stopped performing. Instead, Boekbinder volunteered as a teacher at New Folsom Prison and focused on writing. “I wrote about feminism/violence against women, privilege, and prison abolition” says Boekbinder. “This album is the least and most personal – It feels terrifyingly vulnerable.”

“I Am Yesterday” is the intimate and eloquent new single from Zoe Boekbinder. Each new layer introduced throughout the piece presents a purposeful and deliberate use of dynamics that pulls the listener deeper into Boekbinder’s exposed and raw storytelling. The song was released by Righteous Babe Records on July 21 and co-produced by friends/labelmates Gracie and Rachel.

“This song is about losing a friendship and being cut off from that person without a chance at resolution or reconciliation. It’s about being shunned and being cast as a villain in someone’s story,” says Boekbinder.
