Formed in 2019 after a slew of collaborations, Burs is the creative family of Lauren Dillen, Ray Goudy, Devon Savas and Oliver Compton. The Toronto-born indie outfit digs deep into an array of influences – folk, alternative, ambient – to build sounds that marry existential motifs with ethereal soundscapes. Underpinned by strings, textures and percussion, their music beckons to fans of artists similar to Alex G, Grouper and Hand Habits, all the while offering listeners a uniquely personal approach to quartet interplay.
Burs have released a powerful and catchy new single showcasing the band’s breadth of influences and dynamic range. “Lily”, with its pulsing Velvet Underground guitars and lo-fi distorted Wet Leg vocals, has a classic early aughts indie-rock sound but with a flair for tension and release that adds more depth than at first meets the eye. A forthcoming debut album by Burs is expected for release in the Fall all of 2022.
