SONG PREMIERE: Canadian Psych Quarter Mother Sun Bring Flavorful Musical Bombast Via “Webbed Feet”

We’ve had our share of Australian psych in recent years, but along with bands like Hot Garbage and Yoo Doo Right, let’s not forget that Canada has their own brand of hypnotic indie psych that follows a more straightforward song pattern. Enter Canadian psych quartet Mother Sun that have just announced a brand new LP entitled Train of Thought, due October 28 via Earth Libraries, as well as the band’s own small label, Kamloops BC-based Divine Bovine Records.

Glide is premiering the record’s first single, “Webbed Feet,” which comes alongside an accompanying music video. Check out this divine track that acts as a pulsating adventure into modern psych rock, that should earn a Desert Daze invite here shortly,

Posing a question, falling asleep/ Glued to a fish eye, blind in the ocean/ Water resistance, growing webbed feet,” guitarist/vocalist Jared Doherty sings as throwback horns and semi-orchestrated musical mayhem pours in giving a middle finger to any predictable pop-minded muti-instrumental presentation.

That track’s blend of riotous complexity and souped-up devolution digs at the thesis of the album as it teeters at the edge. “It’s all about the way our thoughts control us and we control them,” Doherty says. “Being anxious about mind control, noticing your surroundings, caring for your mental health, being mindful of others, and not letting your train of thought run away due to complacency.”
