Father John Misty Kicks Off Summer 2022 Tour at Red Rocks With Colorado Symphony

Father John Misty’s music was built to be enjoyed around nature as his soft croons just sound prolific when dabbling in the outdoors, so it was fitting that the artist formerly known as J Tillman kicked off his 2022 tour at Red Rocks. The current tour is in support of the artist’s latest release Chloë and the Next 20th Century, an album that mixes Misty’s signature take on folk with classic classical style production.

Father John Misty has always been one for experimenting with his sound. Whether it is his earlier works as J.Tillman, the down-trotted bluesman, or his dive into the folk-rock world with his 2015 release I Love You, Honeybear, Misty isn’t afraid to go head first into a concept album. That’s exactly what he did on 2022’s Chloë and the Next 20th Century, a combination of all of his past work with hints of classic jazz and dive bar-style piano tunes.

Misty is also taking a note from the Chopin era with his stage design, minimalist and full of instruments. Misty was joined by a full orchestra at Red Rocks to bring his new sound to life. The Colorado Symphony added that extra element to separate this tour from Misty’s past outings. He performed almost all of his 2022 album along with classics from past releases. Hits like “Chateau Lobby #4 (in C for Two Virgins)” got their time in the spotlight but Misty really made the most out of having a full orchestra there to bring the concept of Chloë and the Next 20th Century to life.
