LISTEN: Melanie MacLaren Offers Dreamy Ambiance On Celestial “Summer In Sweeden”

On Melanie MacLaren’s latest single, “Summer in Sweden”, the singer-songwriter continues to serve up a compelling mix of folk and dreamy ambiance that seamlessly brings together the past and present. Hauntingly sung lines like “I’m gonna give my life to a lost cause/I’m gonna give is to what once was…”, can speak directly to that reverence for tradition while simultaneously speaking to a younger generation that has come of age in a world that just can’t seem to get it’s act together when it comes to the challenges the future might bring. Be on the lookout for a collaborative folk EP with songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly due out later this year.

“Lyrically I liked the idea of oscillating between stream of consciousness, specific writing, and very true to form, almost playground song type lyrics because those kinds of lyrics evokes summer and the emphasis on structure give them a folk feeling with a fun, modern bend—but there’s another layer to it we don’t see, the complex inner-dialogues that accompany what looks simple from the outside, so the stream of consciousness lets me get at that,” says MacLaren.
